Respite Program

The In-Home Respite Program was started in 1980. Our mentor Mrs. Bess Jacobson was very instrumental in getting the government to recognize this need. This program helped prevent unnecessary residential placement of children and adults by providing families with temporary relief from the burden of caring for the individual, thus giving the family more time for work, school, other children, family and social gatherings, and other family responsibilities. It also helps by providing task oriented training within the home to individuals who may need it, thus helping them achieve maximum skill levels. This is a much needed program. It is funded by a Purchase Care contract from the Department of Human Services.
